Queermunity MN

I was so hyped and excited about walking to Queermunity to be a part of the "alphabet community." While the food was tasty and vegan (thanks), the folks manning the Cafe were quite "matter of fact" if not cold. Interesting note, they definitely liked each other well enough to banter back and forth and laugh. It would have been nice if they shared a little smile with their customers. It was a great walk all the same & I saw a lot that is encouraging to me as I consider moving to Minneapolis. Queerminity is not part of the positive vibe for me, sadly.

There was nobody behind the cafe counter when I came in and after waiting for several minutes I approached the front desk employee and they let the cafe employee know I was there. I waited another couple minutes—and this is when the place was almost empty, I was one of five people there. I got a sandwich and it was small for the price. The greens were roasted with the sandwich which wilted them. Otherwise it was okay. So if it were just a cafe I wouldn’t recommend at all. But as a queer friendly work space, which is what it advertises, it’s good. There are various seating options, plenty of space, and options for different group sizes. There are a few outlets, but most tables don’t have one. There’s a big shelf with books and games to use. There are plenty of plants to brighten up the space, and there’s no music playing. Everyone works quietly. The bathrooms are slightly dirty but the tables are clean. There’s also a free water station.

What an incredible find for rental space! I hosted a two-day meeting and event that required a number of people coming and going, complexity with food, and the need to spread out, and Queermunity was absolutely perfect. Highly recommend for groups looking for meeting space. Pigeon in the cafe was able to handle breakfast and lunch, and their service throughout both days was great. There were rave reviews on the soup and sandwiches, and options for all kinds of dietary needs!

This place is amazing! Great atmosphere for working, everyone is friendly and polite, and they have so many community events it's mind blowing! It's clearly run by folks who work very hard and care a lot about the community 💜 I also love that they have an art market for local artists 🥹 It's on a major road but there's free street parking a block or two down & its a quick walk. Can't recommend enough!!

Queermunity Café is a really nice community space where you can easily hangout, chill, and get comfy! It’s a very open space with ample seating and lots of natural light. It’s not a very bright space, very dim lighting overall, and when we went they have continuous DJ type music going at a medium-level volume. Not super overstimulating but definitely not a super quiet place. Would be a great place to come with friends and catch up or play games! Very much a hangout space. The café biscuits were delicious as well as the cold brew with lavender and oat milk. They provide a handout menu which is nice! I did wish the menu was listed on the wall or somewhere to read, but all good! They didn’t have an espresso machine though which was too bad as I would expect a café to be able to make lattes. Maybe they could get one in the future! (I know they’re just starting out 😊) Free water, bathrooms, and WiFi are available!! They also provide a sign for how to access an ASL interpreter which is very considerate. For the bathrooms I appreciated that they had a sharps container! I think the experience could even be elevated if sanitary resources were provided such as pads or tampons! I also think it would be so fun and unique if this space commissioned artists (or enlisted volunteers) to paint some murals around! Places with painted bathrooms always heighten my experience!! Other suggestion: A little hard to find the place - they did have a sandwich board outside the establishment but an overhead sign on the building might help! When you enter, there are directions for going up the stairs or elevator which are super helpful! Overall great community space. Very comfy, big open area, and not super busy. Seems like a nice place to chill.
