Babe's of Carytown

Never been super sold on this venue. Last night I was there and got leered at, zeroed in on, stalked by, and approached two appearly cishet men who were hunting together. I told management and they said to talk to security. As someone who has been stalked and sexually assaulted, going to security or fighting isn't something I automatically do, I am running. There are loads of poc and trans folks who have had issues in the past. Last night I was thinking, where are the progress pride and trans flags (tons of 1978, 6 color flags and a lesbian flag but what of others)? What are you doing to protect the community? I will give their work and landing place for stonewall sports seems like community work. I guess I just expect more of a place where there are vulnerable populations. I want people in our community to be safe. We should be able to dance without predators creeping that don't even belong in gay/ queer spaces. I almost wonder if they switched to a membership format it might help.

I was served onion rings in raw batter, which is a health hazard. They were out of the sauce that came with the onion rings (didn’t know before I ordered), I ordered a plate and when the other food arrived, was told what I ordered wasn’t available and I need to get a refund. Drinks are fine, the best thing about this place is the patrons and the bar staff. DO NOT get the food, unless you want to sign up for disappointment and raw batter/salmonella. EDIT to respond to the condescending reply. First off, clearly you can see in the picture the onion ring is raw, I don’t really care how it got to my plate. When I asked for my chicken tenders and was told flatly/rudely that I need to get a refund, I was then told at the bar when I got my refund that most things were out of stock, instead of the staff trying to do anything to improve the situation. I realize businesses get busy. As you admitted, communication to the customers and among the staff is key to provide a standard experience for a patron. Not even excellent, just meeting the bar. Unfortunately, your response deflecting ownership on to a customer is not at all surprising.

It's Babes. It's home. It's your local comfort spot and always delivers an uplifting special experience. The love is all up in there no matter when you go. The LGTBQIA community (and straight) love coming here because it's so accepting and full of love and no judgement. Dancing, pool tables, drag shows, evnets and good happy hour specials. Last time I went (on a Saturday), even standing in line outside was an incredible life changing experience of laughs and lifelong connections and memories.

From the door, to the bar, to security, this place CONSISTENTLY has the worst service of any bar I've ever been to. I was held up at the door yesterday because I asked if it was possible to make change for my cover charge. The bouncer made a face and stared at me before asking "have you been here before? so you know we can do change..." Really don't understand why that was necessary at all. She then proceeded to complain about me to the other bouncer while I was still standing right there. I truly don't understand what I did wrong. I'm over 21 with a valid ID, I had money for the cover charge, and I was trying to move through the line quickly and respectfully. I'm in the service industry and I am always polite and tip well. Why it was necessary to hold up the line to be rude to me, I will never understand. This is not my first negative experience with staff here, and it makes me sad because I would love to patronize a historical LGBT business. Do better.

The drinks were good. Wouldn't reccomend going if you expect it to be a lesbian bar. I dont know if it was the saturday I choose or not, but majority of the patrons were men. A mixed bar isnt an issue, but I feel like that label can set certain expectations. I also don't feel super safe going back after being assaulted by one of the men there.
